Mission: To reduce the level of acceptance of hate speech and hate crime among the people in the country by raising awareness on the topic and its negative implications, and by educating youngsters to be multipliers and activists in their local community.
Objectives:
- To raise awareness on the topics of hate speech and hate crime and its negative effects within the society
- To engage youngsters to actively contribute in combating hate speech by organizing events and actions in their communities
- To provide competences for youngsters to act as multipliers and facilitate processes within their communities on the topic of preventing and combating hate speech and hate crimes
- To raise the awareness of the Human rights education and its importance among the youngsters as a defence against the rise of violence, racism, extremism, xenophobia, discrimination and intolerance.
- To equip youth workers, educators and activists with tools and approaches to actively combat hate speech
The overall work plan provides space for youngsters through different activities to get knowledge, skills and attitudes on what is hate speech and how do we prevent/combat it.
The work plan is consisted of various activities on local and national level, which are a follow up from the previous processes, the 4th school against hate speech, and the different national and local activities from the “Strengthening National Capacity to Tackle Hate Crime and Hate Speech” project implemented in 2015.
All of the activities will be implemented by the educators, which were trained in the previous years, with direct mentorship of a team of trainers experienced on the topic.
The 5th School for combating hate speech as an annual event will happen again in autumn and will focus on providing competences to youngsters to deal with hate speech.
A national training for school teachers and high school students is planned with the Directorate for Personal Data Protection, which is planned to result with different actions in high schools around the country on the topic of preventing and combating hate speech and hate crimes.
As CID is working on this topic for already 5 years, and as it has a big conference for 10 years of existence of CID, there will be a national gathering of activists for combating hate speech, as part of the “Look Beyond Conference” in December 2016.
Beside this there will be the local activities and trainings in 6 municipalities, which were not covered last year, focused on strengthening competences, engaging multipliers and activists to act against hate. As a follow up from last year, this year we will additionally focus on the regional cooperation between the municipalities of Lipkovo, Kumanovo and Staro Nagoricane, as very diverse (ethnically, geographically, economically, politically). The need for strengthening the cooperation among this communities and especially the work on this topic came from the activities last year, so for next year we provision more local activities, and joint trainings for youth from the different communities.
