The University on Youth and Development is a space for debate, training, exchange of experiences and affirmative action concerning Global Youth Cooperation. Global Youth Cooperation is a concept that has emerged from within the youth movement worldwide during the decade of the nineties. It is the collective response of young people and youth organisations to the challenges of globalisation.

The University on Youth and Development is an activity jointly organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, the Spanish Government (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and other international youth organisations.

The University is composed by the Joint Programme that gather all participants and the training courses promoted by the participating organisations: Global Education and Youth Training of Trainers, 4th Youth Work Development Working Group Meeting, CJE’s International Training School – “Youth Rights in Action”, “Building from within: a seminar for youth leaders of the African Diaspora living in Europe”, YOU(th) contribute(s) to building civil society to face global challenge, eeeLearning for Advocacy, “Green Leaders” Training Course, and the Meeting of the Network of Universities on Youth and Global Citizenship.

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe together with the partners of the Network of Universities on Youth and Global Citizenship organized a training of trainers that gathered around 24 participants. The course was based on the previous experiences of the Global Education (GE) online training courses and several editions of the Global Youth Work Training Course.

The training had two main aims: to empower young people to further support the implementation of the GE online training courses of the Global Education Programme of NSC-CoE, as well as to develop competences of participants that are or will be actively involved in the implementation of the different Universities (African University on Youth and Development – Cape Verde, University on Participation and Citizenship – Uruguay, University on Youth and Development – Spain and future Mediterraneam and Asian-Pacific Universities).

Matej Manevski, current president of CID Macedonia, was a participant of this training. His impressions from the training and the university in general are very satisfying. He gained a lot of knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of Global education and he said that the TC was really empowering, the atmosphere there was wonderful, and he suggests the University for everyone who has the chance to be part of it.

This year the University on Youth and Development which happened in Mollina, Spain from the 16th to 23rd of September gathered 180 young people from 50 countries to work on Youth Rights.
