As the year is coming to an end so is Cihat Kir’s stay in Macedonia. Cihat Kir is a young man from Turkey who came in July, and he’s been working in our youth center MultiКулти ever since. His mobility is part of the long-term EVS project “Shape Tomorrow with Youth”. We decided to do a little interview on his impressions and experience.
CID: How did you like your first volunteering experience?
I liked it very much. My motivation is to create a better future for the children, that’s why I chose this project. I got to work with a lot of youngsters in the youth center and I want to believe that I helped some of them, even if that help was as little as teaching them a few Turkish words. My expectations have been fulfilled.
CID: What did you enjoy the most?
The project that I enjoyed working on the most was called “BalCAN change”, we went to Ohrid on a youth exchange where there were participants from Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. We attended a lot of workshops, we were working in groups and the main aim was building the capacity of young people to engage in peace-building activities.
CID: Would you recommend EVS to all the young people?
I would definitely recommend it because I got to experience life, I learned how to work on different projects, I met a lot of people from different nationalities, I learned how to share an apartment with different characters, I discovered different cultures. There really isn’t a negative side from this kind of experience.
