My name is Max Arcand, I’m a United States Peace Corps Volunteer coming from a small town in New Hampshire. For almost 2 years I have lived in Kumanovo, working primarily at Toli Zordumis as an English Teacher and in my spare time volunteering for different NGOs around Kumanovo.
One organization in particular that I’ve worked with for about a year has been CID. Through their Youth Organization, Multi-Kulti, I have been fortunate to meet some great people, learn a lot, and even implement some of my own projects. Two such projects I have worked on have been “Creative English” which involved helping students to further develop their creativity and English skills through creative writing, poetry, public speaking, and essay writing. Another project, which recently wrapped up, was training a group of students to compete and debate at the 2nd annual Model United Nations Conference held on May 5th in Stip.
As of now, working as part of the team at CID has enabled me to further my cultural integration, allowed me the opportunity to get to know Kumanovo and its citizens on a more personal level, and given me a place to hang out and converse with like minded souls. The staff and volunteers at CID and Multi-Kulti are some of the most energetic and positive people I have met anywhere in the world, and I think the difference they’re making on both the local and national levels will be felt for many years to come!
