Our team (Simona Lokvenec, Ana Marija Matikj, Atanas Iliev, Emina Amit, Kristijan Dervishov, Sara Redzepagikj) attended a youth exchange “I YOU(th) Leader” in Zagreb between 11-20 May organized by Ocean Znanja u Republici Hrvatskoj. As a follow up event for the project they thought of an amazing campaign – “Take what you need” – day. They are sharing with us their impressions:
We were having a hard time choosing an adequate project to undertake not because we run out of ideas but simply because we had so many! While we were brainstorming over a cup of coffee, we decided that the best way to brighten up someone`s day would be to do so randomly and in a way no one would expect it.
We decided to prepare take-what-you-need posters where various messages were written (Every moment is profound opportunity. Life is short, choose happiness. You are somebody’s reason to smile. You are a beautiful soul.) or simply a random happy word such as: love, hope, faith, peace, passion, healing, beauty, freedom… We decided to place the random posters on random places throughout the city center of Skopje – in the city park, bins, street lamps near the banks of the Vardar river… As we were putting the posters, we noticed people passing by, intrigued by what we were doing. Some immediately took a slip of paper, others seemed unbothered by it.
Little kids also seemed interested in what we were doing, especially when they spotted the colorful posters. The colors were quite refreshing, especially taking into account that most of the surroundings are grey so it was quite refreshing to see those posters in all the places we put them!
Anyway, we had a fun time doing our activity, we saw our city from a different perspective and in the end each of us felt like taking a slip of paper as well, so in doing so we felt not only like organizers of the event, but we felt its result first hand as well!
So, if you are feeling like you are “missing” or “needing” something to brighten up your day, feel free to take a stroll around Skopje, you`ll definitely come across one of our posters and feel free to “take what you need”!
