Since we spend most of our time on the social networks online, it is very important to distinguish the type of information we receive as well as to be able to detect the relevance of the news we are reading.
Our participants Teodora, Tijana, Jovana and Sara attended the training course devoted to news literacy, critical thinking and media activism held in Belgrade (May 26th – June 4th 2024) as part of the project MEDIActive Youth: Informing the Balkans.
The participants in the training course gained a variety of knowledge and abilities in the areas of media activism, critical thinking, and news literacy.
They extended their understanding of how to use the new skills in real life as well as about the importance and the impact of journalism and media on society in the post-truth era; how to spot deceptive media tactics; how to spot fake news, images, videos, and social media accounts etc.
The project, which took place in Belgrade from May 26th to June 4th, was an excellent opportunity for us to acquire new skills and knowledge. We had excellent lecturers who contributed to improving our communication and writing skills. We met new people, communicated successfully, and gained friendships from several countries. This was a great opportunity to be part of a group of young and successful people.

Besides the teaching part, the participants were together with the participants from other Balkan countries. Together they established new friendships, exchanged experiences and strengthened the cooperation among themselves.
If I had to use one word to sum up the ToT in Belgrade, I would definitely say diverse. I gained news literacy, critical thinking, and media activism learning skills from the ToT, which also helped me expand my knowledge and skill set in other areas, like writing. My knowledge of media literacy has also improved as a result of the training, and I am now better able to comprehend news and use social media. I got the chance to meet new Balkan colleagues, discover Belgrade’s beauties, and create new experiences, while on the ToT in Belgrade. This comes highly recommended if you’re seeking for an exciting, fresh encounter in an unfamiliar field.
